I hope everyone enjoyed Christmas and is relaxing with leftovers! The day after Christmas always seems like a perfect day for turkey sandwiches, movies and chillin’ with a good book or magazine.
I wanted to share with you some holiday looks from recent days. For a casual, yet funky look I pulled together skinny (reminds me not to eat too much pie!) distressed jeans, a basic black t-shirt and fun, furry vest. Sometimes vests can be a little overwhelming so to give myself a little shape, I simply belted it. I used a black leather belt so it would be a subtle accent and not draw attention to my waist. My favorite pair of booties add some height without being too much for a casual night out. A neutral tan leather clutch works well if you’re traveling and can be reused with several outfits as needed. Simple silver cascading hoop earrings and stacked bracelets finish off the look.
For Christmas Eve I wore this burgundy faux leather shift. We were driving most of the day so this was comfortable and easy. I arrived looking great with no additional prep needed before church! I simply switched out my day bag for this leopard print clutch and added OTK boots for some warmth. This black jacket dresses it up but I also pair this with a black leather jacket for some edge. At the last-minute I pulled on a plaid infinity scarf (not pictured here but shown in my “blues” post a few weeks ago) to keep my neck warm and add some interest. A thick cuff, vintage red ring and long dangle earrings were all that was needed for the finishing touches.

Sorry to be so late today, but I’m sure you know how it goes!
The outfit I’m featuring includes a summer skirt that I scored on a mark-down and am now pairing with a winter sweater. If you find a skirt (or shirt for that matter) that has at least one color you can pull from for another season and it works as a layering piece…go for it! In this case, I’m pulling out the gray. This skirt also easily pairs with tights for added warmth or socks and boots. The sweater is a basic in my wardrobe…I have this same one in multiple shades of gray. I also have similar style in black…several as a matter of fact. My signature sweater style is a v-neck. Same for t-shirts come to think of it. I feel they look dressier and if you get a deep v, sexier for a night out. A scarf also helps pull this outfit into the colder months and then I paired it up with boots. This would also look good with higher boots if you wanted to go that route. My bag is vintage inspired with little beads that coordinate with my vintage pearl cuff bracelet. the ring adds a modern touch of sparkle and everything is finished off with a large pair of silver earrings.
I love a good jacket. The right jacket can dress up or dress down an outfit or give that extra edge. One type that is still remaining popular is the military and/or band style jacket. The one I’m featuring here is my take on this trend…it’s a vintage jacket I picked up at Hinesite and was probably used by hotel staff somewhere. It’s heavy, it’s warm and it just needed a little love to bring it back to life. I paired it with a simple black t-shirt underneath and these stunning blue suede OTK boots. The blues don’t perfectly match and I prefer that actually. I can’t get enough of the OTK boot trend and I’ve probably said this before but they really do help to keep my legs warm! Skinny jeans were a must to tuck into the boots but also to balance the flair of the jacket. I felt it still need a little punch so I twisted this plaid flannel infinity scarf around my neck. I kept the accessories pretty basic with simple silver hoops and a thick silver band ring. The small purse was a gift from my sister-in-law years ago and works perfectly for day or night!
I hope you’ve had a good week…enjoy the weekend!

Well, the warm glow of California is wearing off I’m sad to say. It is cold here on the East Coast and certainly feeling like winter weather. So, I’ve been looking for something cozy…these fingerless gloves fit the bill. They are so warm and I love that they were handmade. They are going to look awesome with my black leather jacket too. This sweater is so warm and comfy and if you need more warmth, it’s easy to layer a t-shirt or tank under it without adding any bulk. The fringe on the bottom is fun and makes it more than just your usual black sweater. This would also look great with a sequins skirt for a holiday party or night out. I slipped on this easy mini (this thing is fantastic)–it packs well (made the trip to LA) without wrinkling and can be worn with or without tights. I chose to pair it with some gray OTK socks in a cableknit. Even though I’m not wearing tights, it amazes me how warm socks like this can keep your legs. When paired with high boots they are all the better. I finished the look off with vintage earrings and ring and a large gold cuff. The topper of the outfit is the beautiful red leather bag. I can carry it by the handle, put it over my shoulder or wear it as a crossbody. It has plenty of pockets and can hold everything you need in a day. The leather is so wonderful…this would make a great gift for those of you still looking!
