frayed

Denim trends are all over the place this season…so many choices! While in Miami, I picked up this pair of frayed jeans. They scream to be worn with a great pair of shoes to show off the ragged edges. I love the shorter length because they will work with flats or heels. And, they are the softest denim.

For an easy day I paired them with a dark floral blouse and simple jewelry. A complimentary colored clutch finishes the look and can carry it to night if I want.

Do you struggle with traveling as much as I do? If it involves an airplane these days, there is alot to consider. Carry-on or checked? Is this 3.4 oz or less? Does lotion count as a liquid? Purse and a tote or purse in a tote? Hot or cold when I arrive? Freezing on the plane? And, of course…what shoes?!

Today I am headed off for a long weekend away and it involves a plane so here’s my run-down:

  1. Carry-on always these days. I hate waiting for my bag and hoping it’s there!
  2. I keep a handy supply of my essentials that are all under 3.4 oz. Always ready to go! Stock up on samples of your favorites whenever you can.
  3. Yes lotion counts…get clear bottles to put some of your favorites into so they fall under the ounce limit.
  4. Tote…pack the purse! I can fit all my magazines, boarding passes, wallet, phone and essentials in a stylish tote. It also holds my scarf which I always have on a plane because, well, I’m always cold on a flight. Loving this silver tote I’m taking this time. It’s going to work great as my “day bag” when I arrive and will go with everything.
  5. It will be hot when I arrive, so lighter wear for the plane but still comfortable and layers. The layers can go when I arrive and I’m left with an outfit ready to hit the town! This long cardigan is stylish, comfortable and keeps me warm but not sweating. The dress I’m wearing today is super comfy and moves well; looks great when I get off the plane. If you’re traveling on business you could also toss on a blazer over this dress and head to meetings straight off the plane.
  6. I’m always cold on the plane…I never travel without a scarf and some kind of sweater. A jacket only when necessary. Both are in tow today.
  7. The shoes…more times than not, I opt for boots or booties. And, yes, I keep them flat (or a low heel)! You never know when you might need to hustle to the next flight. If they slip off easily all the better when it’s a long flight.

baubles…

This Spring looks to be a fun time for those of you who, like me, love jewelry and can’t decide if you’re on the statement necklace or layered look band-wagon. I haven’t been wearing as many necklaces as I did in the past opting to stack on bracelets day after day instead. But, today I’m showing you some different options. So, I started digging through my closet…

Layered petite pieces of jewelry are really hot for Spring/Summer. I decided to pull together a new wing pendant with one of my grandmother’s lockets (complete with childhood pictures of my brother and I!) and a collection of pendants I had over the years combined onto one chain. Look through your older jewelry and see what pieces you can combine.

Statement necklaces still seem to have their place as well…this silver set of chains is one of my all-time favorites. I don’t think it will ever go out of style. Chunky beads and those pieces bringing back the 70s vibe are also right on-trend. I took a longer fabric necklace with metal fringe and knotted it up like a scarf to give it more of a retro look. My “flashback” moments will most likely be a reappearance of several chokers which I would recommend wearing either alone or again layered with longer options.

I’m glad statement earrings are still “in” since I love them! A trend I haven’t gotten into is wearing mis-matched earrings. Too much Type A I guess! A new pair I’ve added recently is a pair that can work as a simple gold stud or add the backer and they become a more modern take on stud earrings. I really like the mix of gold and silver in these as well. I’m sure these will get alot of use this Spring/Summer.

silver

I know it’s not “officially” white jeans weather yet, but I couldn’t resist. I’m sure this will not be the first time you’ll see them in one of my posts as it gets warmer. I love the distressing and the frayed edges which hit just above my ankles. Perfectly on-trend for Summer. I wanted to keep it casual today so I kept everything neutral and un-printed. A simple scoop neck t-shirt is the perfect basic. I love this long cashmere cardigan. It gives this look just the right amount of “edge” while also keeping me warm! Long cardigans like this drape beautifully and simply feel elegant and stylish.

My twist today is this layered silver necklace. I’ve kinda gotten away from wearing necklaces lately but this one added the right amount of punch to the outfit. It’s one that could go dressy or casual…don’t be afraid to mix it up. The booties are super comfortable and have a neat speckle pattern to them. An alternative would be killer heels. That would take this outfit from day-to-night quickly. I think oversized clutches work perfectly during the day; they are something unexpected and they make an entire outfit stand out. this one is one of my favorites with the combination of black leather and animal print.
