Tassels are everywhere this season. I’ve been dying to try out this trend but had not found the right piece. One my last trip to LA we stumbled into a great little boutique and I found these wine colored tassel earrings. They are pretty dramatic!
I’m pairing them two different ways. My guide when wearing big earrings like this is to keep everything else around my neck bare or simple. Other accessories should stay simple as well in my opinion. So, I’ve taken the same wide leg pants and acrylic booties and styled them two different ways.
Here I went with a more casual look. This silk t-shirt is so comfortable (and also looks great with jeans!) and slightly tucked in gives a casual look. Adding a vintage bag and flea-market-find cuff finished this look.
Change the top to a sleek black knit and this outfit is ready for a night out! I switched up the bag to a tan leather clutch as well.
This has been a week of meetings! I’m sure some of you can relate to that…running from one thing to another. I’m really looking forward to the weekend.
So, when I have a week like this I need to feel comfortable. These distressed jeans from Level 99 are the perfect choice. They fit well and have a great distressed edge to them. When I wear jeans like this I tend to prefer a heel of some sort. I think it adds a little polish and keeps them looking pulled together and not sloppy. I paired them with a simple black tank and a long black jacket. The jacket detail is not showing up but it has fun zipper pockets and silver metal piping across the shoulders. The fabric drapes so nicely and is really soft. I know this is going to be a key piece of my Fall wardrobe. The silver booties are one of the best purchases I’ve made recently. Metallics are popping up everywhere for Fall. They are easy to wear, add a pop of shine and can work with anything from jeans to dresses.
Even though I’m looking forward to the weekend, it will not be a quiet one. Tonight we are part of a VIP party for Habitat for Humanity’s Renovator’s Home Tour. MFE’s UnGala is Saturday night and we’re expecting it to be a fabulous evening…you can still get tickets! Hope you have a good weekend and maybe I’ll see you at one of these events! Enjoy.
I love a great t-shirt. I’m pretty picky about them though…it has to be soft, a fitted style, longer length, and a v-neck or loose crew neck. I’m not a huge fan of logos or names on anything and a t-shirt is no different. But, I do love a graphic T. And, you can never go wrong with a plain black version.
The graphic T has been a staple in my wardrobe for years. It works great with a pair of jeans and fabulous heels. Or, change up a favorite skirt with one for a casual twist and easy style. As we get into cooler weather, a black leather jacket is the perfect topper for this look.
Right now I’m really hooked on Vince’s black v-neck. When you find a style that fits you well and is comfortable, I recommend buying multiples! I’ve had so many times that I buy one “to try it,” end up loving it, and then can’t find it again. Snatch them up from the beginning.
It’s hard to believe we’re in the beginning of September. The weather is still hanging on to Summer…not that I’m complaining! If you’re looking for some fresh dresses to get you through the next couple of weeks, check these out:
The asymmetrical line on this dress is right on point. It’s the softest material and would look great with booties as well.
This simple little dress is amazing on, but you need to have the legs to wear it! It will be great in the Fall with a jacket or sweater tossed over it. The mock turtleneck is also right on point.
The lace on this dress is really comfortable. It’s easy styling will certainly make it a favorite.
Another lace option is this beautiful fitted dress. Again the lace is really soft and comfortable. The back of this dress is really beautiful.
All of these dresses can be found at Taupe. They have new things showing up all the time so be sure to get in and check them out!
Moody, dark floral dresses are really “in” right now. Every time I look at one I love it in pictures but don’t like it on me…I’ve simply never been a floral girl. But, here my niece Georgia pulls off a sweet black floral dress for our dinner date. As I sat in my typical black dress with navy nails I couldn’t help but sit back a bit and smile at the next generation of smart, confident women coming up behind me in the next generation. With her black floral dress and navy nails she clearly discussed being at camp, who she met, what she liked as well as some pretty mature topics and what makes her hesitant about going into 8th grade.
Sakura was perfect and we both had yummy dinners (and finished them!) but I think the best was our stop at Lancaster Cupcake on the way back to the car. Peanut Butter Oreo Cheesecake for her and Toasted Coconut Caramel for me! She played some of the Hamilton soundtrack for us while we sat outside enjoying our treats. Such fun…if you need cupcakes for anything, this is the place to go.
Georgia turns 13 in a few days and I hope we have many, many more dinner dates and chats like this…it’s always good to get a fresh perspective on life.
Fortune cookie of the night…I think this is pretty spot-on.
I’ve been working for the past few days from LA and thought I would share a little of what we’ve been doing. This is one of my favorite places to be. The weather is always beautiful, there is so much to do, and the food is incredible.
We started out with a once-in-a-lifetime performance at the Hollywood Bowl. This iconic venue for concerts hosted Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Steven Tyler, Billy Gibbons and Beth Hart. At the end they all were on stage performing Purple Rain…it was so moving. We had box seats, dead center and for this gig you could bring in your own alcohol which was nice. We sprung for a catered meal which was definitely the way to go!
Some of the concert street style! I loved how this woman mixed patterns; she looked great.
We’ve been staying in AirBNBs now when we’re here. This time we’re in the Hollywood Hills in a fun bungalow with 40+ steps to reach it. It’s tucked on the side of a hill with challenging parking spots but gorgeous views. What has surprised me is the amount of wildlife…I walked out yesterday to find a doe and her baby in the side yard (I couldn’t get my phone out quick enough for a picture!) and hummingbirds everywhere. I’ve never seen one land but they actually do! A short walk down the hill leads to a quaint neighborhood general store where you can get everything from an espresso to wine to toilet paper!
I’m not sure if this little calico kitty is part of the “main house” but she kept me company most of the day Friday while I was working on the patio. She is very friendly and has the most amazing green eyes–I’m sorry the picture doesn’t do her justice.
Last night we went to a jazz club for dinner…I had a spicy vodka cocktail with fresh blackberries, we shared tuna ceviche and lamb kabobs (I did not partake in those!) and then I had spaghetti squash with grilled veggies and Rob had salmon. Music was great, crowd was fun.
Today is our last day here and we’re going to start with a walk to the general store for coffee and sweets and then we might hit a museum or outdoor market. The sun is already streaming in our windows so I’d better get moving!
When I was in high school, from what I remember, blue was my favorite color…for those who know me now you would never believe it. I fully admit 80% (at least) of my closet is black. It has been that way for a long time and I find it makes pulling together an outfit really easy! This year, I’ve added a touch of my old favorite back into the mix. When you mix black and blue together you can get navy so it only makes sense that navy pairs perfectly with black. I think adding black to navy gives it more of an edge and less of a corporate feel.
Here I added a long black duster…I can not get enough of this style of sweater. It’s so dramatic because it goes to the floor. And, it flows with you as you walk. Or, in my case, every now and then it trips me. Yes, true story. It makes me laugh every time thinking of how I look walking down the street and tripping myself! These blue suede OTK boots kept the overall look a little brighter than black boots would have. I am in air conditioning all day so no, they are not too warm in the summer! A neutral choker and simple, round silver earrings finish off the look.
Part of any good outfit is your skin. I’ve always been pretty good about taking care of mine, but I’m finding as I get older I have to change my skincare routine more often. And, even in summer I need a good moisturizer. Thankfully I have a friend who blends lotions for me! This body cream is amazing..it is rich without being messy. The good news is you can get blends she makes for Festoon. They are wonderful. I’ve also been using essential oils from time to time to relieve stress or make a room smell good. I recently was introduced to wild orange as a “wake up” in the morning…rub a little in your palms and take a nice deep breath. You will be ready to face your day minus the caffeine!
Steamy hot Fridays call for effortless dressing. Don’t get me wrong, I love this hot weather we’re having. Yes, I know I am in the minority. But, seriously, what’s not to love? The sun has been shining, we’ve had beautiful sunrises and sunsets and the warmth simply feels good.
Generally, on really hot days I grab a dress but today I went for a pair of draped wide leg culottes that look like a skirt. They have a front panel which lays nicely over the pants and belts at the side. The fabric is light weight and easy to move in. I picked these up at a major discount on my last trip to LA and I love them. Dress them up or down and they can take you day to night. I find a good pair of black pants or jeans are worth the money every time…they will get you out of a dressing pinch any day. I’m pairing these with a t-shirt I’ve had forever…fitted, super soft and muted colors. Plus, I love the words: Peace; Love. A good reminder for all the haters out there. A great pair of block heels and this fab fringe bag finish the look.
Fridays are my favorite breakfast as well…I add some local honey to my oatmeal and cacao to my latte. I finish that off with mixed berries including goji berries. Antioxidant packed breakfast that sustains me until lunch and tastes so good. For me, breakfast is my most important meal and it’s one I pay particular attention to inner beauty and how I’m fueling myself for the day. Having these ingredients on hand make that an effortless start to the day as well.
Grateful. It’s a simple word but carries so much meaning and is difficult sometimes to “see.” I passed the one year mark of my first injection in my back; I’m coming up on the one year mark of my second injection (and hopefully my last). When I started that journey I said to myself I would be really pleased if I hit one year and still had no pain return. It’s here and no pain. I did not do that alone…Rob was a huge supporter and didn’t let me quit; Dawn Cox at Prana Functional Manual Therapy didn’t let me quit; and Stacey Little at Pilates Synergy didn’t let me quit. They believed in me. I believed in me. That support and ownership to get better motivated me.
In the year since then so much has happened. I’ve passed the one year mark in a new job which challenges and pushes me to be better every day. I’ve traveled to beautiful places building memories. Saw an endangered whale. Tried vermouth…not as a mixer, but as a drink. Who knew that could be so good! And, discovered I can still rock a pair of heels.
I didn’t think I would like the lower block heel style which is popular right now but give them a try…they are really comfortable as well as stylish. I’ve put them with distressed boyfriend jeans today but they work equally as well with a flow dress or skirt or wide leg culottes. I’m also really loving the return of choker..today I paired two vintage ones from different eras but I think the contrast works really well. There’s something about a choker that gives a regular outfit an edgy spark.
Long vests are a versatile piece to add to your wardrobe this Summer. You can dress it up or keep it more casual. A vest also isn’t as heavy as a jacket but it will still give you a little bit of a cover up.
I’m heading out to LA for the holiday weekend so I grabbed my white vest for the plane. Distressed jeans are a great contrast to the formality of this tailored style. Of course I added a graphic t-shirt and a scarf. The red in this scarf brightens up the entire outfit adding a really nice punch. I can swap out the jeans for a dress over the weekend and have a completely different look with this vest. A favorite pair of ankle boots finish the look.
