There are so many new styles of jeans right now. I’ve been really drawn to the frayed edges but I recently discovered shadow jeans. I haven’t seen a lot in this style but they are out there. I found this pair and really liked the darker panel running down the side. The un-even frayed cuffs sealed the deal for me.
It cooled off again today so I grabbed this long black blazer instead of a jacket. We were heading out tonight and it was perfect since I didn’t need any other layers. The un-even cuffs need heels to really show off the cut…these would look great with a pair of pointed toe heels instead of booties as I did today. For going out on the weekend, I would choose either a simple black v-neck tee or silky blouse.
They are high-waisted which, honestly, I’m not sure I would want to wear all the time! Typically, I don’t like anything tight or up around my waist. But, I really feel with the high waist it makes me look out of proportion because I’m not terribly tall. It’s gonna take some getting used to…
I have been loving the choker trend ever since it came back around! While I’ve added several new ones to my collection, I also have many I wore back in the 80s; a few vintage ones and even one from my mom!
This is the one from my mom! I get so many compliments on it.
Sometimes with thinner chokers, I will layer them with other petite necklaces. This gives an overall casual look. But, there is nothing wrong with keeping it simple and elegant by using one choker.
Generally, I tend to keep cool tones with silvers and warm with golds or rose golds, but every now and then I will mix the metals for an easy-going, casual look.
When I’m wearing a choker I pay close attention to my earrings and necklines. Layers of chokers look best with deep v-necks. Crew necks are best with one simple choker and off the shoulder handles the more dramatic or wide chokers. Wide chokers also look great with a sheer v-neck. I’ll often mirror a choker pattern or style with my earrings. Round hoops with silver round metal details as shown above. If it’s a dramatic necklace, I tend to keep my earrings simple. Add a cocktail ring and you’re ready to face the day!
These round ball earrings are so fun! While they can be a statement on their own, I think they can totally handle a wide choker too.
Don’t leave your longer chains out of the mix either! Layer a long simple chain with a smaller choker. This special birthday gift makes it super easy by coming as a complete set…no guesswork! It’s also a mix of metals for added flexibility.
I am continually reminded why I love Lancaster. The spirit here and the incredible talent all around us is something not to be taken for granted. I hope as our city continues to grow and thrive we don’t loose our roots and soul.
As a woman working and living here I also am humbled by all the amazing women we have in the city creating positive role models for the young girls watching. And, they are watching…my wicked smart niece reminds me of that every time I am around her. Today, I’d like to shout out to two such women who are coming together around fashion (hello, one of my favorite subjects!). If you have a chance to stop by Taupe today between 10-3 you will catch Renie demonstrating her beautifully handcrafted jewelry that’s made here in Lancaster. It’s full of options and style and offered exclusively at Taupe. Barb and her wonderful staff will be there to welcome you as they always do! These are kind, beautiful women who are all coming together to support each other’s businesses and give clients a fun experience!
Friday nights are generally our date night. It’s a great way to end the week and reconnect. Or, some times it’s a great way to let loose! Whatever I wear during the day is off limits for the night out. I want to dress up and look special.
I’m not typically a ruffle kind of person but I surprised myself with this dress and like it. It’s kinda fun and flirty. A perfect date night dress! In the summer this dress will be so easy and comfortable to wear. I think it’s also going to be a good “travel dress” because it does not seem to wrinkle. For now, I’ll pair it with OTK boots and my leather jacket. Booties or flats would be perfect for summer.
I’m so excited to let you guys in on what I think has been one of Lancaster’s best kept secrets…Foundation Printing! As you know, our company went through a rebranding which launched January 2017. Our announcement was sent in our holiday mailing and was something we’d never done before…t-shirt swag. It had to be great; the printing had to be spot on and materials top-of-line. For myself and our company, it’s important to support local whenever possible. So, I was searching.
Enter my brother and Splits & Giggles…they had just completed a run of new hats locally and he posted about it. Checked Foundation out on his referral and signed on to produce our t-shirts for clients, partners and staff. Eric and Abby were on top of it from day one. Seriously, I can’t say enough good things about them…customer service was amazing, the shirts are great and everyone loves them. All boxes checked!
If you’re looking for a swag partner, I would highly recommend Foundation Printing. They also do embroidery and are expanding into other printables such as mugs. Check out their Facebook page.
Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you are as stress-free as possible today and into next week. Remember…breathe and if all else fails, “sip.” If you’re looking for something to kickoff the holiday season without any fuss or stress, check out the dresses at Taupe. I picked up this retro black version and love it.
This style can be super sexy if you leave the drawing string front a little loose or can be plain fun if you tighten it a bit. The length is perfect for OTK books. Here I’m wearing it with taupe suede boots which really play up the retro vibe. But, a pair of sleek black OTK heels look equally as good and tone down the retro vibe of it. I’m planning on wearing this out for a date night with Rob following Christmas.
It also pairs equally well with gold or silver accents. Because of the taupe boots I chose gold here but when I do my black boots I tend to go silver.
The bell sleeves are amazing and I love the flare they bring to the outfit.
Enjoy your time off (I hope you’re getting some), family and friends!
Taupe is open today and tomorrow if you need that special last minute gift or outfit! Enjoy
I love it when a dress has options! Any outfit that can be worn multiple ways is an absolute “win” in my book. This is especially true when traveling or during the holiday season when you need pieces to carry you through multiple events and places.
This dress fits that bill. Super comfy, simple black and a sleek silhouette make it perfect for about any occasion.
It can go casual with an oversized sweater on top — this would look even better with a gray sweater for contrast but you know me, black is “go-to.” Or, pair it with a long vest for a completely different look. Here, I put it with a pair of booties but I wore it home on a plane with gold converse sneakers and it looked amazing!
Or, keep it classic and simple with nothing but a great bag and boots. This can take you to any holiday party! Dress it up with statement earrings or heels. If you wear it to work with a slouchy sweater and flats and then quickly change to heels, lose the sweater and you’re ready for a night out with friends or co-workers.
I absolutely love long duster style sweaters. I can not get enough of them…I think they elevate the look of whatever you’re wearing. Most that I find are mid-calf length so when I see one that goes to the floor I have to have it!
This black sweater is super simple and goes with anything. It’s comfortable and stylish. Here I paired it with jeans and thigh-high boots but it would work just as well with a dress.
I’m getting ready to head to LA for Thanksgiving and I’m really excited to have some down time. But, before we leave we will be hitting Lancaster for the Extraordinary Give…hope to see you out and about supporting our community and one of your favorite organizations! Enjoy.
It’s a special thing to have a custom pair of jeans. Uniquely your own. And, adding patches is the perfect way to show your style.
This project was so fun to pull together. My choice in jeans was a basic boyfriend style…personally, I think these work best. A wider leg and slouchy feel keeps the patches looking on-point and current. Patches would also look amazing on a much wider leg and cropped style boyfriend jean, especially if you are taller. For me, I feel too short to wear that style well—LOL!
Rob connected me with Laura Roberts who was the master behind sewing and distressing the jeans. We met at Root of Lancaster to pick out fabric swatches. This was as fun as picking out paper for me! I loved being able to touch all the swatches. She had a great stack of fabrics in all colors and patterns to choose from. We rifled through those pulling out whatever spoke to me at the moment. Amazingly, they all really went together nicely!
We talked about distressing the jeans and whether the patches would be on top of the jeans, with distinct stitching or peeking out from tears. I didn’t see the jeans again until they were done.
They ended up the perfect balance of patches on top and some peeking out from pockets and tears.
I think pairing heels with these jeans is the way to go. It keeps the look pulled together. Although, on the right person a good pair of converse sneakers would work as well for a more casual feel.
There will never be another pair exactly like these! If you’re interested in a pair for yourself, or another creation by Laura, check out her Etsy site, The Pink Phoenix, when it launches. Enjoy…
The days are getting fewer and fewer to enjoy our beautiful roof deck unfortunately. But, I still love popping up there for a quick breakfast or a cocktail at the end of the day. I am finding though that the breeze is a little cooler now so a scarf like this one helps! And, of course I have to add boots…really, is there any outfit boots do not work with?! These beautiful blue suede boots not only have fringe (a trend I am totally embracing) but they also have metallic flecks. Love! I’ve mentioned before and I’ll say it again…navy and black are a great combination. The bright scarf adds a pop and a neutral crossbody bag pulls it all together.
A few simple changes to this outfit gives it a completely different look. Remove the scarf, add a choker. Swap the fringe boots for a fringe bag…this one is by far one of my favorites. The leather is amazing. Finish it off with animal print boots of course! Ready to go to work or out for drinks with friends.
This weekend is the Fall Artwork in Lancaster. Please take a walk around town and enjoy the many talented artists we have. It’s First Friday as well and my good friend Loryn is featuring Remi Crist at her gallery. Come check out this beautiful young human and her artwork…enjoy!
