I began working last year to improve my leadership skills. I have a coach who is helping me and it has been an amazing journey! By focusing positive energy I’m finding I can work from a whole different level. I find it really interesting to observe how much positive energy can move you and everyone around you forward and what a drag negative energy can be. Moving the present forward…not living in the past. I spent some time yesterday on our deck in peace and quiet reflecting on the joy in my life and how I wanted to move those memories forward as we hit 2016. I think it’s going to be a great year!
We’ve celebrated the end of the year with friends over the past couple of days and here is a glimpse at the outfits carrying Rob and I forward!
The night before New Year’s Eve…celebrating a good friend’s birthday.
New Year’s Eve White Jacket: Cupcake Boutique [had it for years!]; T-Shirt: Kelly Wearstler; Faux Leather Leggings: Taupe; Earrings and Bird Ring: Space; Shoes: Prada [not available any longer, but some cool options here]; Clutch: Clare V. On Rob: White Leather Jacket: was his brothers, find similar here; Jeans: Hudson; Boots: Aldo.
Today I’m mixing it up with stripes and a faux fur vest…loving the contrast between “traditional” and funky! These are pieces I’ve had in my wardrobe for years but they still work. A stripe slouchy turtleneck will never steer you wrong–look for different color combinations to update the look. I saw a perfect light gray furry type sweater vest at Festoon this past weekend…it would give you a similar look but a longer line which would be very flattering. They only had one that I saw so get there quick!
I still love my distressed jeans. These are faded, distressed and above the ankle–tripe score! These types of jean are perfect for highlighting a great pair of shoes or boots. The ones I have on today are olive suede and are so comfortable. I wish I could spring for another pair in black because I don’t think this style will ever go out so they would be a good investment piece.
I added my favorite Mio Studio earrings–these are a classic and I truly love them! Paired up with a green crossbody saddlebag this outfit is ready to get me through work but would also be a great weekend day look for running errands.
It’s going to be a wonderfully warm weekend in Lancaster so I hope to see you out and about…I will be running around trying to snatch up some great finds for my family this holiday season. I am so behind! Enjoy
Lots of opportunities between today and tomorrow to Shop Local and support the many great businesses we have in Lancaster (or in your own local hometown)! We really don’t have much to buy this year but I am looking forward to getting out around town today, doing some walking and window shopping along the way.
Neutrals are always part of my go-to any time of the year. This faux leather skater skirt is so versatile and it feels and moves like real leather. A simple v-neck sweater is a staple…I have this one in several neutral colors because I liked it so much. You can never go wrong with these basics. My knee (and over the knee) sock bin keeps growing. I was recently talking with friends about what a difference they make with boots and are so much better than tights. No binding around your middle! This bamboo scarf is fantastic and made by a friend of mine locally. The dying is beautiful so each one is slightly different. Because of the longer length you can wear it like I am here or wrap it several times to keep your neck and chest nice and cozy. She can make any color combination and if you unroll it, I’ve been known to use it as a cover for my legs on a plane. I love it when a clothing piece has options!
We are having some really nice weather here in PA for November so I’m taking advantage of it today and still wearing short sleeves! I love t-shirts…honestly, I never realized how much until I started to take an inventory of my closet. I have alot of t-shirts; hanging and stacked depending on the type and how often they cycle through my wardrobe. Today’s pick is one Rob brought back from Tokyo. Don’t ask me what it says because I have no idea!
Incase the office has air conditioning on, I grabbed my faux fur vest. A little rock-in-roll I guess but it will take the chill off. My stand-by distressed jeans round out the outfit along with one of my favorite pairs of Mio earrings. You know Mio has more than simply earrings…I picked up a beautiful planter as a business gift there yesterday. If you haven’t been in, stop in tonight for First Friday and check them out.
I’m adding a bonus in today on my post…so many wives (and a few guys) have asked me to post Rob’s outfits. So, here he is ready running out the door. I wish we had more men’s options locally, unfortunately he does alot of online shopping or picking things up when he travels. He has an equally strong sense of style as you can see…today he’s pairing up an orange puffer vest with shorts and boots. I love that he has really embraced boots! Guys–don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit. So many men play it safe so really it opens the door for you to stand out (in a good way!)
If you’re looking for something that’s not quite a sweater and isn’t nearly has heavy or structured as a jacket, the kimono might just be the thing you’re looking for! It’s a great piece for summer…breezy and colorful but gives your arms some coverage. Some are plain and some heavily patterned like mine.
Today I’m pairing mine with a simple black tank and skinny jeans. For work I’m putting it with black booties but if I was wearing this out, I would probably do some heels. You could easily do this look with flat sandals though too and it would look just as stylish. Keeping with a casual vibe I’m adding this great black fringe bag. I just love this bag…it can work as a clutch style like I’m showing here but it also has a shoulder strap.
I have been on the jumpsuit bandwagon since last year…they are so easy! It’s practically like a dress in that all you need to do is add a few key accessories and you are good to go. This one is a change for me because I’m trying a run at culottes. I really think this pant style works best on someone who is taller than me but I’m adding some platform boots to help make up for it! Another option would be a great pair of pointed toe shoes. And, for all my regular readers…no, this is not what I’m actually wearing while working from Lancaster.
Today I wanted to take a little liberty to plug an event our building is hosting on Saturday to benefit Music for Everyone (MFE). It’s a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to making sure music stays in our local schools and community. For the second year in a row we are holding the Warehouse Wandering at the Box Company Flats. This event brings the neighborhood and community together for a night of fantastic music (4 bands and a DJ this year) and pairs them with local artists in a converted warehouse space. Guests can roam through 4 floors listening to the music; grabbing a drink and great food and purchasing art. Proceeds from the sales that night keep music flowing in Lancaster County! The combination of art and music is near and dear to both Rob and I so it was easy for us to get behind the event and help make it happen. It’s also a night to dress up and have a good time…this is where the jumpsuit comes in!
I hope you are enjoying the warm weather we’ve been getting here in Lancaster as much as I have been. Have a great weekend and please consider giving back and getting involved in your community in anyway that makes sense for you–you can make a difference! Enjoy…
Today is going to be a flurry of activity ending with a family get-together at our place…yes, I am cooking. At least pieces of it! So, I pulled something together that would be flexible and carry me throughout the day. A quick switch at night to a skirt and I’m ready to go.
This weekend is the official start to Summer so I’m kicking it off with an on-trend pair of cropped jeans. They work really well with low heels or with higher heels for a night out and I’m loving these sporty ankle socks. I just think they are fun addition to the outfit. My trusty black jacket steps up the t-shirt but will also keep me comfortable when going in and out of air conditioning. As the day gets warmer, I can toss that aside. A day clutch adds some polish. I kept my jewelry pretty simple but could add more statement pieces if I wanted to take it to a “night” look.
For me, style is how you do something…your personal brand. It is distinctive and we all have it. We just explore it and display it in different ways and that’s ok. Last night I had such a great time at The Art of Style fundraiser benefitting The Demuth Museum and the Lancaster Museum of Art. My good friend Loryn joined me and we got to jam to some music, eat a little food and watch alot of local style!
I love our city and last night again proves you don’t need to travel outside of our area to find fantastic fashion pieces! I hope you enjoy this little glimpse into last night…
A hot trend this season is the boho look…easy, breezy, comfortable and casual. I didn’t think this would really be a look I would embrace but then I tried on this blouse. I just loved how comfortable it was and the way it draped. I immediately started running through outfit opportunities in my head. Generally I do that when I’m thinking of buying something, especially a trend piece. I want to make sure in my head I have a few options so I get use out of it.
Today I’m pairing it with a pair of torn jeans because it’s still cold to me! But, as we get into summer this is going to be perfect with either a pair of cut-off shorts or a simple mini skirt. Boots, booties or cool sandals will all work. These boots are perfect! I love their look and even though they have a heel, it’s not too high and it’s thick so they are really comfortable. The gold tips really sold me on them though–love something unexpected like that on a shoe. For my jewelry, I layered a brass bangle I’ve had for years with a leather and metal cuff I got form a dear friend for my birthday this year. The earrings are cascading gold bars.
As you know, after shoes, I’m all about the bag. This fringe black leather bag is beautiful. And, it finishes off this outfit perfectly. It can be used as a crossbody during the day and then tuck the strap in for a clutch by night.
This week has been about hosting events for Rob and I. Tonight, we are hosting the Executive Orientation Series class graduation. We were part of the class of 2009 and this is an organization we are both proud to help support. Leadership Lancaster offers two course opportunities…check them out!
This weekend is Art Walk in Lancaster. It’s supposed to be a nice weekend so why not get outside and enjoy some art while you’re at it. Enjoy!
Do you struggle with traveling as much as I do? If it involves an airplane these days, there is alot to consider. Carry-on or checked? Is this 3.4 oz or less? Does lotion count as a liquid? Purse and a tote or purse in a tote? Hot or cold when I arrive? Freezing on the plane? And, of course…what shoes?!
Today I am headed off for a long weekend away and it involves a plane so here’s my run-down:
Carry-on always these days. I hate waiting for my bag and hoping it’s there!
I keep a handy supply of my essentials that are all under 3.4 oz. Always ready to go! Stock up on samples of your favorites whenever you can.
Yes lotion counts…get clear bottles to put some of your favorites into so they fall under the ounce limit.
Tote…pack the purse! I can fit all my magazines, boarding passes, wallet, phone and essentials in a stylish tote. It also holds my scarf which I always have on a plane because, well, I’m always cold on a flight. Loving this silver tote I’m taking this time. It’s going to work great as my “day bag” when I arrive and will go with everything.
It will be hot when I arrive, so lighter wear for the plane but still comfortable and layers. The layers can go when I arrive and I’m left with an outfit ready to hit the town! This long cardigan is stylish, comfortable and keeps me warm but not sweating. The dress I’m wearing today is super comfy and moves well; looks great when I get off the plane. If you’re traveling on business you could also toss on a blazer over this dress and head to meetings straight off the plane.
I’m always cold on the plane…I never travel without a scarf and some kind of sweater. A jacket only when necessary. Both are in tow today.
The shoes…more times than not, I opt for boots or booties. And, yes, I keep them flat (or a low heel)! You never know when you might need to hustle to the next flight. If they slip off easily all the better when it’s a long flight.
