ruffle sleeve

I generally don’t wear big sleeves and especially not anything with ruffles. But, this is more of a “wing” style than a ruffle and it feels really pretty when I wear it. The sleeves drape nicely and give a simple black blouse an upgraded look and feel. It would go as well with a skirt as it does with jeans.

To offset the formal feel of the this top, I’m putting it with distressed jeans. These jeans are one of my favorites and you’ve seen them many times. There’s nothing like a good fitting pair of jeans! To keep them that way I always take them off and fold them neatly. I stack all my jeans on a shelf rather than hanging them and I don’t throw them on the floor or toss over a chair.

Today, I’m also bringing back a fad from years ago…the choker. I’m looking forward to pulling out some of my old jewelry and wearing it again. Look for these everywhere this Summer. My earrings were a find at ABC Carpet and Home on a trip to NYC and while I normally don’t wear orange and black—too Halloween for me—I thought they added the right pop of color and interest. A vintage bag and fun boots finish the look today!

easy

I can’t believe it’s Friday already! This week went so fast…had two great meetings about the upcoming Wandering Warehouse event on May 7 at our place. Keep an eye out for more information and an invite. This year is going to be bigger and better to help mark MFE’s 10 year anniversary.

So coming off a crazy week and heading into the weekend I decided it had to be easy today. I’m bracing for the cold and layering…this dress is an old stand-by in my wardrobe. It’s simple, travels well (I swear it never needs to be ironed!) and has a great open back. I’m tossing it over off-black skinny jeans today instead of bare legs for added warmth. These suede booties are ridiculously comfortable and add some subtle color. I paired vintage jewelry finds and a handmade pair of chandelier earrings I got on vacation years ago to finish it out. This vintage clutch bag was a score from Hinesite (man, I miss that store!) and will easily help take the outfit from day to night. I’ll probably toss on a funky scarf tonight and wear this out too.

white on white

So, building on my post from last Friday, I’m continuing the white trend this week. Only, I not showing what I’m wearing today. I wanted to give a shout out to an event happening this coming Wednesday (June 17) called Fete en Blanc Lancaster. It’s a community celebration and ushering in Summer. This year marks the 4th year…I’ve been to all of them and they just keep growing and getting more fabulous!

The concept is you wear white, bring tables and chairs; food and drinks to a designated location in Lancaster at 6 pm. You must be invited to attend and attendance is limited…each year the competition gets heated to get a coveted spot at the event. It is email invite only and it seems you have literally minutes to reply! I don’t know where the event will be this year–that part of the fun. You don’t find out where the event is being held until the day before. It’s a cool night bring together friends and new friends from throughout Lancaster.

Here is my outfit for this year…nearly all of it sourced locally! I’m also adding in a pick from one of my favorite local stores as an option. Even if you’re not attending this year’s event, white is completely on-trend this year more than ever before. White on white is even bigger. So, make your own entrance into Summer and snag something white to wear out this weekend.

baubles…

This Spring looks to be a fun time for those of you who, like me, love jewelry and can’t decide if you’re on the statement necklace or layered look band-wagon. I haven’t been wearing as many necklaces as I did in the past opting to stack on bracelets day after day instead. But, today I’m showing you some different options. So, I started digging through my closet…

warm_L1080607 L1080644

Layered petite pieces of jewelry are really hot for Spring/Summer. I decided to pull together a new wing pendant with one of my grandmother’s lockets (complete with childhood pictures of my brother and I!) and a collection of pendants I had over the years combined onto one chain. Look through your older jewelry and see what pieces you can combine.

Statement necklaces still seem to have their place as well…this silver set of chains is one of my all-time favorites. I don’t think it will ever go out of style. Chunky beads and those pieces bringing back the 70s vibe are also right on-trend. I took a longer fabric necklace with metal fringe and knotted it up like a scarf to give it more of a retro look. My “flashback” moments will most likely be a reappearance of several chokers which I would recommend wearing either alone or again layered with longer options.

I’m glad statement earrings are still “in” since I love them! A trend I haven’t gotten into is wearing mis-matched earrings. Too much Type A I guess! A new pair I’ve added recently is a pair that can work as a simple gold stud or add the backer and they become a more modern take on stud earrings. I really like the mix of gold and silver in these as well. I’m sure these will get alot of use this Spring/Summer.

spring?

So today is the first day of Spring! I am looking forward to tulips, birds waking me up in the morning and warm sun. But, today, the forecast is snow. I’m hoping if we are going to get this that it is the slushy, goes away by tonight kind of snow! “Spring Snow” I think I’ve heard it called.

I had planned for a dress today but instead I’m layered up to keep warm. This vintage sweater is one I’ve had for seasons. I love that the colors are not your typical argyle combination. It pairs perfectly with one of my favorite t-shirts and a cotton striped scarf. Instead of just tucking in my skinny jeans I decided to cuff them today for a little different look. This look would also look great with a funky pair of flats. I’ve worn these boots in numerous posts and continue to love them. They also work great with skirts and dresses so you will see them again! For an added pop of color I’m including my red leather tote.

day to night

These black jeans are one of the staples in my wardrobe rotation. They are jet black with a slight suede feel and they are comfortable! Because of these features, they are a perfect day to night pair of jeans and today I will be doing just that. Another staple for me is a great t-shirt. That means a good fit and the softest material I can get. Like the jeans, this shirt delivers…I think it’s actually the softest t-shirt I own. I love the “lips” and the punch of color it adds. It is going to be fantastic in the Summer as well because it is lightweight and will pair equally well with skirts as with shorts. Because the t-shirt is light, I’m adding a basic black jacket instead of a sweater–a good black jacket is something everyone needs in their closet. During the day I will be using my red leather bag but switching up to this fun wristlet for night. Vintage jewelry and cascading gold earrings are the perfect accessories topped off with a polka-dotted scarf for some polish. We walk alot on the weekends and since it snowed Thursday I’m feeling a pair of flats are in order to navigate the sidewalks. These OTK boots are not only the best walking boots but I’ve found this year that the added coverage on my legs really helps to keep me a little warmer–bonus points!

flowers

Ok, I just need some warm weather and a hint that tulips are around the corner! And, I’m sure I’m not alone this year. So, even though it is cold out, I felt drawn to this shift dress. I know I usually pick black but as soon as I saw this, I loved the vibrant colors and snatched it up! The shift style is really easy to wear and it’s so comfortable. Plus, you can dress it up or dress it down. I can pair it up with a sweater or jacket. Today I added OTK suede boots, gold jewelry and a neutral leather clutch.

cozy

I thought last week was cold but it’s got nothin’ on today! It was a balmy -10 with the wind chill this morning. So, I figured it would be best to wrap myself up in something cozy.

This warm brown wrap sweater does the trick for today. It’s really versatile and can be worn open or belted. I prefer it belted because I like it to make a little bit of a waist and give me some shape! My go-to black t is layered underneath and finished with skinny jeans. The boots were a fun score when I was in LA. I love the pocket detail on the sides and the cool pointed toe.

I added some vintage and new rings, a cuff and fabulous earrings that cascade down to the sweater. When I need to head out today, I’ll be bundling up in this leopard print jacket topped off with an orange plaid blanket scarf…this coat is so warm. None of my new coats are as warm as this vintage one. Love it!

cold

So, I came back from LA this week to cold, just plain cold. A little bit of sun (not quite like LA…) and single digit temps at night. Today, it is still going to be cold. I need to be out and about so I’m feeling warm and comfortable are in order.

These boyfriend jeans are just baggy enough but not sloppy. I loosely tucked a charcoal gray sweater in and then belted them. The black and white shoes are one of my favorite pairs…I tend not to wear them much in winter but I felt today might be a good day to switch up from boots! I always find a scarf of any kind helps keep you warm just by wrapping it around your neck. This is a beautiful silky one I picked up years ago. It adds a nice bit of color and texture to the outfit. I paired silver jewelry with this outfit and an animal print crossbody.

grey

I’m bracing for another burst of cold air this weekend and heading out for a meeting today. I want to be warm, comfortable and stylish! So, I’ve combined a new pair of grey suede OTK boots that finally just arrived (seemed like it took forever!) with a favorite pair of dark wash jeans. These boots are going to be great I think…they fit like a dream, look stylish and have just enough of a heel but (hopefully) won’t reaggrevate my back. The charcoal grey suede is really beautiful and because they have a stretch back, they fit nice and snug making your leg look thinner. A basic black T for layering is under a warm boyfriend cardigan sweater. I tossed on a cozy plaid scarf which will keep me warm all day. This scarf also pairs great with my vintage grey coat when I head out for my meeting. I needed a little pop of “something” so I’m choosing to wear these crystal earrings. You can pull these off during the day…just keep the rest of your outfit casual. I stacked a few vintage bracelets along with a favorite new one and slipped on my favorite wide band ring. A final touch is the grey leather clutch bag. It also has a strap so will work well during the day. Done and ready to go!
