The days are getting fewer and fewer to enjoy our beautiful roof deck unfortunately. But, I still love popping up there for a quick breakfast or a cocktail at the end of the day. I am finding though that the breeze is a little cooler now so a scarf like this one helps! And, of course I have to add boots…really, is there any outfit boots do not work with?! These beautiful blue suede boots not only have fringe (a trend I am totally embracing) but they also have metallic flecks. Love! I’ve mentioned before and I’ll say it again…navy and black are a great combination. The bright scarf adds a pop and a neutral crossbody bag pulls it all together.
A few simple changes to this outfit gives it a completely different look. Remove the scarf, add a choker. Swap the fringe boots for a fringe bag…this one is by far one of my favorites. The leather is amazing. Finish it off with animal print boots of course! Ready to go to work or out for drinks with friends.
This weekend is the Fall Artwork in Lancaster. Please take a walk around town and enjoy the many talented artists we have. It’s First Friday as well and my good friend Loryn is featuring Remi Crist at her gallery. Come check out this beautiful young human and her artwork…enjoy!
So the countdown is on! We leave for vacation on Tuesday.
It often surprises people that I travel with only a carry-on. Yep, that’s right…it all goes overhead or it doesn’t go with me. What’s the secret? Layers; neutrals; multi-tasking items and compression sacks.
For my skincare and make-up…samples or travel sizes are key. You can easily find these in most department stores or online. I’ve SaveMart (locally) to be great for the essentials like deodorant; tissues; toothpaste etc (although stock away the sample toothpastes and floss your dentist gives you and then you’re all set with no expense!) I pour my lotions, serum and foundation into smaller travel size jars so I don’t have to carry a full bottle. I’ve been trying to streamline my make-up routine anyway so this trip helped be fine-tune even more. I’ve landed on a flexible eye shadow pack from MAC that is perfect. It’s thin case travels well and the shadows can be used wet or dry so you can get day and night looks from the same mix. I consolidated my blush and bronzer into one product that provides contouring and color…again, from MAC. I’m loving the small, thin case and how nice it applies. I have a duplicate set of brushes and sponges I can only for travel. this way I know I’m not forgetting something. This roll bag holds everything I need perfectly and slips easily into a side pocket in my carry-on.
Clothing…really, one bag you ask. Yes. As you see here the key is neutrals: grey, black and taupe. And, for fun this time I’m adding a navy dress which works with black for a sophisticated touch. A few graphic tees, black and denim jeans and a gold and silver jewelry. I take a large tote as my “personal bag” on the plane—it fits magazines; my iPad; phone; passport and any other essentials I need to have at hand while flying. In my carry-on I throw 1-2 clutches/crossbodys for added interest with my outfits. Since it’s still a little cool, I’ll be taking my black trench coat—classic and goes with everything. My handy scarf that doubles as a leg warmer on the plane and two pairs of black boots will round out my wardrobe. All the clothing slips into a large compression sack, suck out the air and lay it in. Keeps everything protected from random spills and saves a ton of space. I carry one extra compression sack for all the things I buy while traveling too. Done!
Lots of opportunities between today and tomorrow to Shop Local and support the many great businesses we have in Lancaster (or in your own local hometown)! We really don’t have much to buy this year but I am looking forward to getting out around town today, doing some walking and window shopping along the way.
Neutrals are always part of my go-to any time of the year. This faux leather skater skirt is so versatile and it feels and moves like real leather. A simple v-neck sweater is a staple…I have this one in several neutral colors because I liked it so much. You can never go wrong with these basics. My knee (and over the knee) sock bin keeps growing. I was recently talking with friends about what a difference they make with boots and are so much better than tights. No binding around your middle! This bamboo scarf is fantastic and made by a friend of mine locally. The dying is beautiful so each one is slightly different. Because of the longer length you can wear it like I am here or wrap it several times to keep your neck and chest nice and cozy. She can make any color combination and if you unroll it, I’ve been known to use it as a cover for my legs on a plane. I love it when a clothing piece has options!
We are having some really nice weather here in PA for November so I’m taking advantage of it today and still wearing short sleeves! I love t-shirts…honestly, I never realized how much until I started to take an inventory of my closet. I have alot of t-shirts; hanging and stacked depending on the type and how often they cycle through my wardrobe. Today’s pick is one Rob brought back from Tokyo. Don’t ask me what it says because I have no idea!
Incase the office has air conditioning on, I grabbed my faux fur vest. A little rock-in-roll I guess but it will take the chill off. My stand-by distressed jeans round out the outfit along with one of my favorite pairs of Mio earrings. You know Mio has more than simply earrings…I picked up a beautiful planter as a business gift there yesterday. If you haven’t been in, stop in tonight for First Friday and check them out.
I’m adding a bonus in today on my post…so many wives (and a few guys) have asked me to post Rob’s outfits. So, here he is ready running out the door. I wish we had more men’s options locally, unfortunately he does alot of online shopping or picking things up when he travels. He has an equally strong sense of style as you can see…today he’s pairing up an orange puffer vest with shorts and boots. I love that he has really embraced boots! Guys–don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit. So many men play it safe so really it opens the door for you to stand out (in a good way!)
I know there are alot of people who are ready for the warm weather to go away, but not me! I would love to stretch Summer out as long as possible. But, as the nights start to get cooler earlier I’ve been able to begin introducing some of my Fall clothing.
Anyone who follows my blog knows I wear boots all year-long. Fall means I can finally break out my OTK boots though. I have to say it’s probably one of the few things I like about cooler weather! This pair is not only stylish but they are actually comfortable to wear. I love the look with this mini and a simple t-shirt. One of the Fall trends is longer jackets, coats and vests. This tan version is going to make alot of appearances throughout the season for me…the length adds great drama and a little polish to this outfit. It also has a belt giving it a completely different look. If you work in a more formal office, pair this with a midi skirt and heels.
I layered on the accessories this time with earrings, a cool necklace (can be combined with other long necklaces as well) and bracelets. Usually I don’t add all those pieces, but it seems to feel right this time. The finishing touch is a fabulous fringe leather bag. It’s a great neutral gray color.
If you’re looking for something that’s not quite a sweater and isn’t nearly has heavy or structured as a jacket, the kimono might just be the thing you’re looking for! It’s a great piece for summer…breezy and colorful but gives your arms some coverage. Some are plain and some heavily patterned like mine.
Today I’m pairing mine with a simple black tank and skinny jeans. For work I’m putting it with black booties but if I was wearing this out, I would probably do some heels. You could easily do this look with flat sandals though too and it would look just as stylish. Keeping with a casual vibe I’m adding this great black fringe bag. I just love this bag…it can work as a clutch style like I’m showing here but it also has a shoulder strap.
Today marks a day of change for me…one door is closing while another is opening. I’m leaving my job today and starting a new adventure on Monday! It’s very exciting and so I felt I needed an outfit today that was bold and exciting as well. Rob and I are also heading out this afternoon to spend the weekend with two of our oldest friends…can’t wait!
I’ve been getting alot of mileage out of this red smooth sheath dress. I just love it. It’s comfortable and you can dress it up or down. Pockets–it has pockets which is the best thing ever in a dress! Today I’m pairing it with a long cashmere duster sweater. To help keep it on the casual side I’ve added boots and my fringe crossbody bag. A cool pair of earrings and my signature big ring and I’m ready to go. Toss the sweater off to catch some sun (hopefully) on our drive and for dinner out. If I paired this dress with heels and a clutch it would be appropriate for any summer cocktail party or wedding. It would also be great for any upcoming July 4th celebrations!
Susana Monaco dress: Taupe
Boots: Diesel (old) but loving these
Bag: Jennifer Haley available at Taupe
Here’s to embracing change and taking a leap of faith…I know it’s supposed to be rainy this weekend but I hope you get out and have fun anyway! Enjoy.
Of course as soon as I switched around my closet the weather did an about-face and turned cold again. There are my sweaters all hanging up top out of reach! So, I’m having to get a little creative with clothes I have ready for more summer-like weather.
I recently added this cool long vest to my wardrobe for the summer. Today I’ve paired a long sleeve v-neck under it but once it warms back up I will probably just use a tank or cami under it. I like the crisp white color and I think it will become a staple both for going out and wearing to work. And, it has pockets–I love pockets! To offset the tailored lines of the vest, I added this pair of distressed jeans. A little funk with the fringe leather bag and big earrings can take this outfit from the office to drinks at happy hour with no problem. I choose to wear boots but this would also work really well with heels.
A hot trend this season is the boho look…easy, breezy, comfortable and casual. I didn’t think this would really be a look I would embrace but then I tried on this blouse. I just loved how comfortable it was and the way it draped. I immediately started running through outfit opportunities in my head. Generally I do that when I’m thinking of buying something, especially a trend piece. I want to make sure in my head I have a few options so I get use out of it.
Today I’m pairing it with a pair of torn jeans because it’s still cold to me! But, as we get into summer this is going to be perfect with either a pair of cut-off shorts or a simple mini skirt. Boots, booties or cool sandals will all work. These boots are perfect! I love their look and even though they have a heel, it’s not too high and it’s thick so they are really comfortable. The gold tips really sold me on them though–love something unexpected like that on a shoe. For my jewelry, I layered a brass bangle I’ve had for years with a leather and metal cuff I got form a dear friend for my birthday this year. The earrings are cascading gold bars.
As you know, after shoes, I’m all about the bag. This fringe black leather bag is beautiful. And, it finishes off this outfit perfectly. It can be used as a crossbody during the day and then tuck the strap in for a clutch by night.
This week has been about hosting events for Rob and I. Tonight, we are hosting the Executive Orientation Series class graduation. We were part of the class of 2009 and this is an organization we are both proud to help support. Leadership Lancaster offers two course opportunities…check them out!
This weekend is Art Walk in Lancaster. It’s supposed to be a nice weekend so why not get outside and enjoy some art while you’re at it. Enjoy!
It’s starting to feel a little like Fall here in Pennsylvania…slightly cooler days and it’s getting dark earlier. I’m not thrilled over either of these things so, I’m trying to squeeze out a few more times wearing sheer tops. I’ve added a simple black cami to this striped sheer top and combined it with slim cut boyfriend jeans. These jeans are going to become one of my favorites for the Fall I’m sure…I just got them and they are so comfortable! I like that they aren’t too baggy so they still give you a little shape. I could pair this outfit with a simple black blazer if I needed to for a meeting. To keep it on the dressier side, I slipped on a pair of black heels which I found at a local consignment shop. The jewelry is pretty simple today, just a set of snake-skin print bangles and a simple gold ring I picked up on a trip last year. The earrings are my pop of color in bright yellow. The fringe bag can actually convert from a clutch style to a crossbody or shoulder bag by adding the strap. It’s a showstopper! The leather on this bag is so soft and it fits in your hand perfectly.
