fringe

The days are getting fewer and fewer to enjoy our beautiful roof deck unfortunately. But, I still love popping up there for a quick breakfast or a cocktail at the end of the day. I am finding though that the breeze is a little cooler now so a scarf like this one helps! And, of course I have to add boots…really, is there any outfit boots do not work with?! These beautiful blue suede boots not only have fringe (a trend I am totally embracing) but they also have metallic flecks. Love! I’ve mentioned before and I’ll say it again…navy and black are a great combination. The bright scarf adds a pop and a neutral crossbody bag pulls it all together.

A few simple changes to this outfit gives it a completely different look. Remove the scarf, add a choker. Swap the fringe boots for a fringe bag…this one is by far one of my favorites. The leather is amazing. Finish it off with animal print boots of course! Ready to go to work or out for drinks with friends.

This weekend is the Fall Artwork in Lancaster. Please take a walk around town and enjoy the many talented artists we have. It’s First Friday as well and my good friend Loryn is featuring Remi Crist at her gallery. Come check out this beautiful young human and her artwork…enjoy!

t-shirts

I love a great t-shirt. I’m pretty picky about them though…it has to be soft, a fitted style, longer length, and a v-neck or loose crew neck. I’m not a huge fan of logos or names on anything and a t-shirt is no different. But, I do love a graphic T. And, you can never go wrong with a plain black version.

The graphic T has been a staple in my wardrobe for years. It works great with a pair of jeans and fabulous heels. Or, change up a favorite skirt with one for a casual twist and easy style. As we get into cooler weather, a black leather jacket is the perfect topper for this look.

tshirt2 tshirt

Right now I’m really hooked on Vince’s black v-neck. When you find a style that fits you well and is comfortable, I recommend buying multiples! I’ve had so many times that I buy one “to try it,” end up loving it, and then can’t find it again. Snatch them up from the beginning.

You can find a wide selection of t-shirts locally at Sophie Stargazer, Festoon and Taupe.

Enjoy!

pre-fall

It’s hard to believe we’re in the beginning of September. The weather is still hanging on to Summer…not that I’m complaining! If you’re looking for some fresh dresses to get you through the next couple of weeks, check these out:

The asymmetrical line on this dress is right on point. It’s the softest material and would look great with booties as well.

l1100165 This simple little dress is amazing on, but you need to have the legs to wear it! It will be great in the Fall with a jacket or sweater tossed over it. The mock turtleneck is also right on point.

l1100160

The lace on this dress is really comfortable. It’s easy styling will certainly make it a favorite.

l1100156

Another lace option is this beautiful fitted dress. Again the lace is really soft and comfortable. The back of this dress is really beautiful.l1100154 l1100153

All of these dresses can be found at Taupe. They have new things showing up all the time so be sure to get in and check them out!

Enjoy.

navy

When I was in high school, from what I remember, blue was my favorite color…for those who know me now you would never believe it. I fully admit 80% (at least) of my closet is black. It has been that way for a long time and I find it makes pulling together an outfit really easy! This year, I’ve added a touch of my old favorite back into the mix. When you mix black and blue together you can get navy so it only makes sense that navy pairs perfectly with black. I think adding black to navy gives it more of an edge and less of a corporate feel.

Here I added a long black duster…I can not get enough of this style of sweater. It’s so dramatic because it goes to the floor. And, it flows with you as you walk. Or, in my case, every now and then it trips me. Yes, true story. It makes me laugh every time thinking of how I look walking down the street and tripping myself! These blue suede OTK boots kept the overall look a little brighter than black boots would have. I am in air conditioning all day so no, they are not too warm in the summer! A neutral choker and simple, round silver earrings finish off the look.

Part of any good outfit is your skin. I’ve always been pretty good about taking care of mine, but I’m finding as I get older I have to change my skincare routine more often. And, even in summer I need a good moisturizer. Thankfully I have a friend who blends lotions for me! This body cream is amazing..it is rich without being messy. The good news is you can get blends she makes for Festoon. They are wonderful. I’ve also been using essential oils from time to time to relieve stress or make a room smell good. I recently was introduced to wild orange as a “wake up” in the morning…rub a little in your palms and take a nice deep breath. You will be ready to face your day minus the caffeine!

It’s the last weekend in July already! Come out and enjoy by celebrating at the King Street Seisiun. Enjoy!

vest

Long vests are a versatile piece to add to your wardrobe this Summer. You can dress it up or keep it more casual. A vest also isn’t as heavy as a jacket but it will still give you a little bit of a cover up.

I’m heading out to LA for the holiday weekend so I grabbed my white vest for the plane. Distressed jeans are a great contrast to the formality of this tailored style. Of course I added a graphic t-shirt and a scarf. The red in this scarf brightens up the entire outfit adding a really nice punch. I can swap out the jeans for a dress over the weekend and have a completely different look with this vest. A favorite pair of ankle boots finish the look.

all white

Last night we attended the Fête en Blanc Lancaster—a fun pop-up dinner kicking off Summer which has been held for the last 5 years. It’s by invitation only and you don’t find out the location until the day before the event. You bring everything with you [chairs, tables, food, decorations, alcohol and all serving pieces] and must wear all white. It began in Paris in 1988 by some friends who met up in a park for dinner. They wore all white so they could find each other and so The White Party began. It’s now held all over the world around the beginning of Summer! Each year it gets bigger and bigger locally. This year Buchanan Park was the spot and it was a beautiful night.

Wearing white is not within my comfort zone so I struggle with pulling together an outfit every year. There were so many great outfits! This year I was the most comfortable and really loved what I ended up wearing. I layered a white mini skirt with a tank and breezy white sweater…each piece was so soft. I know I will wear the sweater over and over this Summer. It’s such a versatile piece (as long as I don’t spill something on it!). With black and white being a trend this year I’m sure I can pull together the skirt with one of my favorite black t-shirts and be ready to go! I have a great pair of white booties which will complete that outfit.

Here’s a visual recap of last night…Matt Titter of The Pressroom did all the menu planning and food prep for our table of 14. I tried his homemade olives and sampled caviar–two firsts for me! What a treat to have a chef custom-prepare your dinner. His wife Meg was one of the organizers of the whole event and she was truly an amazing hostess for our table.

Running into friends is half the fun! Adair Witmer, Christine Witmer (co-worker) and me.

b&w

Black or white seems to be a big trend this season. I have to admit, it does make getting ready easy! I have a wide selection of white t-shirts but I tend more to the black than the white. So, today I worked white in by way of accessories.

No matter what time of year it is, I love scarfs. This skinny silk scarf is absolutely perfect for Summer. It’s light-weight and adds just the right touch to an outfit. On a recent walk to Mad Cap I found this vintage white belt…I could not believe it fit! Recently, I added this white snakeskin clutch to my collection. The silver chain detail around the edges is great. It’s such a cool bag and will get alot of use this Summer. These black and white shoes have been in my closet for years. I feel like they are a classic and I’m sure they have many more years of wear in them.

travel

So the countdown is on! We leave for vacation on Tuesday.

It often surprises people that I travel with only a carry-on. Yep, that’s right…it all goes overhead or it doesn’t go with me. What’s the secret? Layers; neutrals; multi-tasking items and compression sacks.

For my skincare and make-up…samples or travel sizes are key. You can easily find these in most department stores or online. I’ve SaveMart (locally) to be great for the essentials like deodorant; tissues; toothpaste etc (although stock away the sample toothpastes and floss your dentist gives you and then you’re all set with no expense!) I pour my lotions, serum and foundation into smaller travel size jars so I don’t have to carry a full bottle. I’ve been trying to streamline my make-up routine anyway so this trip helped be fine-tune even more. I’ve landed on a flexible eye shadow pack from MAC that is perfect. It’s thin case travels well and the shadows can be used wet or dry so you  can get day and night looks from the same mix. I consolidated my blush and bronzer into one product that provides contouring and color…again, from MAC. I’m loving the small, thin case and how nice it applies. I have a duplicate set of brushes and sponges I can only for travel. this way I know I’m not forgetting something. This roll bag holds everything I need perfectly and slips easily into a side pocket in my carry-on.

Clothing…really, one bag you ask. Yes. As you see here the key is neutrals: grey, black and taupe. And, for fun this time I’m adding a navy dress which works with black for a sophisticated touch. A few graphic tees, black and denim jeans and a gold and silver jewelry. I take a large tote as my “personal bag” on the plane—it fits magazines; my iPad; phone; passport and any other essentials I need to have at hand while flying. In my carry-on I throw 1-2 clutches/crossbodys for added interest with my outfits. Since it’s still a little cool, I’ll be taking my black trench coat—classic and goes with everything. My handy scarf that doubles as a leg warmer on the plane and two pairs of black boots will round out my wardrobe. All the clothing slips into a large compression sack, suck out the air and lay it in. Keeps everything protected from random spills and saves a ton of space. I carry one extra compression sack for all the things I buy while traveling too. Done!

Happy Easter everyone…it’s also my birthday this weekend so we will be out and about while packing in between! Viel Vergnügen!

multi-purpose

I’m starting to prepare for a trip so that calls for multi-purpose outfits. I don’t check a bag…carry-on only! While that makes traveling easier, it makes packing more challenging. So, how do you make that work and still have room for all the cool clothes and shoes you’re going to buy while away?! For me it means layering pieces and neutral colors. I like to take pieces that pack small and flat and can work multiple ways.

This dress is perfect for traveling. It’s ruching style covers up wrinkles making it really easy to travel. The fabric is super soft and drapes perfectly. It can go dressy for a night out or toss on a sweater and it’s ready for a full day of roaming through museums. Believe it or not I tend to take no more than 3 pairs of shoes…the boots here are constantly on rotation all year-long; a pair of booties and maybe a pair of heels. It all depends on where we are going. For this trip I’ll probably take boots only…I suspect some cool shoes may be purchased along the way so I need room! I also keep my jewelry really simple. Typically I take 1-2 pairs of silver earrings (one for day and one for night) and 1 pair of gold; 2 cocktail rings and 1-2 scarves. I always take a large scarf on the plane to wrap around me or put over my legs…even in the Summer I have one with me!

We are heading to see our niece Georgia in Grease tonight…can wait to see her! Hope to bump into you this weekend around the city. More travel tips next week. Enjoy!

ruffle sleeve

I generally don’t wear big sleeves and especially not anything with ruffles. But, this is more of a “wing” style than a ruffle and it feels really pretty when I wear it. The sleeves drape nicely and give a simple black blouse an upgraded look and feel. It would go as well with a skirt as it does with jeans.

To offset the formal feel of the this top, I’m putting it with distressed jeans. These jeans are one of my favorites and you’ve seen them many times. There’s nothing like a good fitting pair of jeans! To keep them that way I always take them off and fold them neatly. I stack all my jeans on a shelf rather than hanging them and I don’t throw them on the floor or toss over a chair.

Today, I’m also bringing back a fad from years ago…the choker. I’m looking forward to pulling out some of my old jewelry and wearing it again. Look for these everywhere this Summer. My earrings were a find at ABC Carpet and Home on a trip to NYC and while I normally don’t wear orange and black—too Halloween for me—I thought they added the right pop of color and interest. A vintage bag and fun boots finish the look today!
