The days are getting fewer and fewer to enjoy our beautiful roof deck unfortunately. But, I still love popping up there for a quick breakfast or a cocktail at the end of the day. I am finding though that the breeze is a little cooler now so a scarf like this one helps! And, of course I have to add boots…really, is there any outfit boots do not work with?! These beautiful blue suede boots not only have fringe (a trend I am totally embracing) but they also have metallic flecks. Love! I’ve mentioned before and I’ll say it again…navy and black are a great combination. The bright scarf adds a pop and a neutral crossbody bag pulls it all together.
A few simple changes to this outfit gives it a completely different look. Remove the scarf, add a choker. Swap the fringe boots for a fringe bag…this one is by far one of my favorites. The leather is amazing. Finish it off with animal print boots of course! Ready to go to work or out for drinks with friends.
This weekend is the Fall Artwork in Lancaster. Please take a walk around town and enjoy the many talented artists we have. It’s First Friday as well and my good friend Loryn is featuring Remi Crist at her gallery. Come check out this beautiful young human and her artwork…enjoy!
This has been a week of meetings! I’m sure some of you can relate to that…running from one thing to another. I’m really looking forward to the weekend.
So, when I have a week like this I need to feel comfortable. These distressed jeans from Level 99 are the perfect choice. They fit well and have a great distressed edge to them. When I wear jeans like this I tend to prefer a heel of some sort. I think it adds a little polish and keeps them looking pulled together and not sloppy. I paired them with a simple black tank and a long black jacket. The jacket detail is not showing up but it has fun zipper pockets and silver metal piping across the shoulders. The fabric drapes so nicely and is really soft. I know this is going to be a key piece of my Fall wardrobe. The silver booties are one of the best purchases I’ve made recently. Metallics are popping up everywhere for Fall. They are easy to wear, add a pop of shine and can work with anything from jeans to dresses.
Even though I’m looking forward to the weekend, it will not be a quiet one. Tonight we are part of a VIP party for Habitat for Humanity’s Renovator’s Home Tour. MFE’s UnGala is Saturday night and we’re expecting it to be a fabulous evening…you can still get tickets! Hope you have a good weekend and maybe I’ll see you at one of these events! Enjoy.
I love a great t-shirt. I’m pretty picky about them though…it has to be soft, a fitted style, longer length, and a v-neck or loose crew neck. I’m not a huge fan of logos or names on anything and a t-shirt is no different. But, I do love a graphic T. And, you can never go wrong with a plain black version.
The graphic T has been a staple in my wardrobe for years. It works great with a pair of jeans and fabulous heels. Or, change up a favorite skirt with one for a casual twist and easy style. As we get into cooler weather, a black leather jacket is the perfect topper for this look.
Right now I’m really hooked on Vince’s black v-neck. When you find a style that fits you well and is comfortable, I recommend buying multiples! I’ve had so many times that I buy one “to try it,” end up loving it, and then can’t find it again. Snatch them up from the beginning.
So the countdown is on! We leave for vacation on Tuesday.
It often surprises people that I travel with only a carry-on. Yep, that’s right…it all goes overhead or it doesn’t go with me. What’s the secret? Layers; neutrals; multi-tasking items and compression sacks.
For my skincare and make-up…samples or travel sizes are key. You can easily find these in most department stores or online. I’ve SaveMart (locally) to be great for the essentials like deodorant; tissues; toothpaste etc (although stock away the sample toothpastes and floss your dentist gives you and then you’re all set with no expense!) I pour my lotions, serum and foundation into smaller travel size jars so I don’t have to carry a full bottle. I’ve been trying to streamline my make-up routine anyway so this trip helped be fine-tune even more. I’ve landed on a flexible eye shadow pack from MAC that is perfect. It’s thin case travels well and the shadows can be used wet or dry so you can get day and night looks from the same mix. I consolidated my blush and bronzer into one product that provides contouring and color…again, from MAC. I’m loving the small, thin case and how nice it applies. I have a duplicate set of brushes and sponges I can only for travel. this way I know I’m not forgetting something. This roll bag holds everything I need perfectly and slips easily into a side pocket in my carry-on.
Clothing…really, one bag you ask. Yes. As you see here the key is neutrals: grey, black and taupe. And, for fun this time I’m adding a navy dress which works with black for a sophisticated touch. A few graphic tees, black and denim jeans and a gold and silver jewelry. I take a large tote as my “personal bag” on the plane—it fits magazines; my iPad; phone; passport and any other essentials I need to have at hand while flying. In my carry-on I throw 1-2 clutches/crossbodys for added interest with my outfits. Since it’s still a little cool, I’ll be taking my black trench coat—classic and goes with everything. My handy scarf that doubles as a leg warmer on the plane and two pairs of black boots will round out my wardrobe. All the clothing slips into a large compression sack, suck out the air and lay it in. Keeps everything protected from random spills and saves a ton of space. I carry one extra compression sack for all the things I buy while traveling too. Done!
I remember going to Maine as a kid and collecting starfish. My brother and I would roam the beach looking for them. I can still remember thinking how unique and beautiful they were. This week I’m wearing earrings that benefit the Starfish Project. They are an early birthday present from my friend, Stacey. I love them and I love that they support a woman’s organization even more. It’s such a thoughtful gift.
The earrings paired perfectly with a graphic t-shirt and distressed jeans. These jeans are quickly becoming one of my favorites…they are breaking in beautifully and are so comfortable. Even though the weather is warming up, I still wont give up my boots and today is no different. When I wear boyfriend jeans I try to pair them with heels or boots to given them some edge and keep from looking sloppy. A basic black jacket finishes out the look and makes it easily office appropriate.
The crossbody bag I’ve pulled together with this outfit is small yet completely functional! It’s a great weekend bag as well. The best part—you can change out the flaps! I love that you can customize the look depending on what you’re doing or what you’re wearing. Keep an eye out for these bags. We will be creating one-of-a-kind flaps for the MFE Wandering Warehouse event on May 7. They come in a variety of sizes so you’re sure to find one fitting your budget and needs!
So for me, if I’m debating a purchase (yes, it does happen!) I stop and think what are all the ways I could wear “this.” If I can come up with multiple uses for something, like that crazy amazing dress or pair of shoes, then I figure it’s worth the purchase. I have options.
I’m sure for many of you distressed jeans do not fall into the category of “options.” These are the jeans you only wear on the weekends with sneakers, right? I don’t think so. You actually have as many options with distressed jeans as you do with any other pair of jeans! I love the tension of something that appears to be ruined or not presentable paired with something higher end or dressed up. These boyfriend jeans are no exception. Sure they could work with a t-shirt and sneakers for the weekend but what if you paired them with heels, a dressy blouse for date night or a suit jacket? Comfortable, stylish and a little bit of “edge.”
Love showing off a pair of cool booties with cuffed jeans!
A turtleneck paired with a moto jacket and jeans will forever be classic. The distressed jeans give it a simple edge that takes you from work to drinks with your friends.
For you office types, toss on a suit jacket and heels to give the jeans the right amount of polish. Bonus—you are still comfortable!
What a difference a week makes! We have had a warm up and a lot of the snow is gone…you will not hear me complaining. It’s actually warm enough to have some skin peeking out and a trend I’m seeing everywhere is shoulders. Whether it’s one shoulder/sleeve, off the shoulder, or shoulders peeking out. It’s a great option if you’re not comfortable with a strapless or if you are self-conscious of your arms.
I love this gray sweater. It is comfortable, easy and it looks great. I get compliments on it every time I wear it. I can dress it up with a pair of faux leather leggings or dress it down a bit with jeans. It feels like it needs boots so it doesn’t look sloppy and these suede platforms are perfect. And, yes, they are comfortable even if you have to walk a lot. I layered on this silk scarf and another sweater instead of a coat since it was warmer today. (yes, me in February not wearing a coat!)
I’m so ready for First Friday and time to catch up with Rob…he’s been working like crazy and we both have been going opposite ways this week so it will be good to catch up. And…it’s the Super Bowl!! Looking forward to the big game Sunday. Enjoy.
We’ve been snowed inside like everyone else in our area. It’s given me some time to catch up on projects as well as forced some relaxation! As much as I hate the cold and snow it does look really pretty until it starts to melt and gets dirty. It always seems the sky looks so much more blue right after it snows…have you noticed that?
I grabbed a warm wrap sweater to cut the chill. A patterned t-shirt and distressed jeans make the base of my outfit. The boots dress it up a bit and add interest with the snakeskin inserts on the side. These could easily be switched out for any booties. This orange plaid scarf is oversized, a great color and really warm. I love to mix it with animal print too. Here, it adds the right amount of color to a neutral palette.
We have been so lucky to have pretty nice weather to-date this winter. I love to steal time on the deck if it’s beautiful day out.
I also love to rock a skirt with booties and not be freezing! This fringe suede skirt was a great purchase—you can dress it up or down. For the weekend I pulled out a favorite cropped turtleneck sweater. Because of the higher waist on this skirt, a cropped top really is the way to go. If you’re a little self-conscience about that, wear a tank under it so your skin stays under wraps! The black leather jacket and moto booties keep it casual as well as comfortable!
Hey Lancaster followers who love music…help Music for Everyone kick off a year-long 10 year Anniversary celebration! The first event is January 28 at the Pressroom. Join us to learn more about MFE and start the party! Enjoy…
Today I’m mixing it up with stripes and a faux fur vest…loving the contrast between “traditional” and funky! These are pieces I’ve had in my wardrobe for years but they still work. A stripe slouchy turtleneck will never steer you wrong–look for different color combinations to update the look. I saw a perfect light gray furry type sweater vest at Festoon this past weekend…it would give you a similar look but a longer line which would be very flattering. They only had one that I saw so get there quick!
I still love my distressed jeans. These are faded, distressed and above the ankle–tripe score! These types of jean are perfect for highlighting a great pair of shoes or boots. The ones I have on today are olive suede and are so comfortable. I wish I could spring for another pair in black because I don’t think this style will ever go out so they would be a good investment piece.
I added my favorite Mio Studio earrings–these are a classic and I truly love them! Paired up with a green crossbody saddlebag this outfit is ready to get me through work but would also be a great weekend day look for running errands.
It’s going to be a wonderfully warm weekend in Lancaster so I hope to see you out and about…I will be running around trying to snatch up some great finds for my family this holiday season. I am so behind! Enjoy
