Lots of opportunities between today and tomorrow to Shop Local and support the many great businesses we have in Lancaster (or in your own local hometown)! We really don’t have much to buy this year but I am looking forward to getting out around town today, doing some walking and window shopping along the way.
Neutrals are always part of my go-to any time of the year. This faux leather skater skirt is so versatile and it feels and moves like real leather. A simple v-neck sweater is a staple…I have this one in several neutral colors because I liked it so much. You can never go wrong with these basics. My knee (and over the knee) sock bin keeps growing. I was recently talking with friends about what a difference they make with boots and are so much better than tights. No binding around your middle! This bamboo scarf is fantastic and made by a friend of mine locally. The dying is beautiful so each one is slightly different. Because of the longer length you can wear it like I am here or wrap it several times to keep your neck and chest nice and cozy. She can make any color combination and if you unroll it, I’ve been known to use it as a cover for my legs on a plane. I love it when a clothing piece has options!
We are having some really nice weather here in PA for November so I’m taking advantage of it today and still wearing short sleeves! I love t-shirts…honestly, I never realized how much until I started to take an inventory of my closet. I have alot of t-shirts; hanging and stacked depending on the type and how often they cycle through my wardrobe. Today’s pick is one Rob brought back from Tokyo. Don’t ask me what it says because I have no idea!
Incase the office has air conditioning on, I grabbed my faux fur vest. A little rock-in-roll I guess but it will take the chill off. My stand-by distressed jeans round out the outfit along with one of my favorite pairs of Mio earrings. You know Mio has more than simply earrings…I picked up a beautiful planter as a business gift there yesterday. If you haven’t been in, stop in tonight for First Friday and check them out.
I’m adding a bonus in today on my post…so many wives (and a few guys) have asked me to post Rob’s outfits. So, here he is ready running out the door. I wish we had more men’s options locally, unfortunately he does alot of online shopping or picking things up when he travels. He has an equally strong sense of style as you can see…today he’s pairing up an orange puffer vest with shorts and boots. I love that he has really embraced boots! Guys–don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit. So many men play it safe so really it opens the door for you to stand out (in a good way!)
It’s getting to be that time of year…scarves! I’ve been playing around with longer versions and silk this year. It’s amazing how much even a thin scarf can take the chill off a cloudy day. The one I’m wearing is a really cool silk scarf featuring roses and barbed wire…love it! It also has a vintage feel because of the thinner profile.
A simple black t-shirt paired with a cropped jacket help to highlight the scarf. The boyfriend jeans keep the overall look casual. I added a favorite pair of kitten heels for some added pattern. These heels are really comfortable and easily go from the office to out for drinks if you need them to! I liked them so much I have two pairs in different patterns. The earrings are the first pair I ever purchased from Mio Studio. I have worn them for years and still love them as much as when I bought them. This dark green crossbody is beautiful leather and on-point as one of Fall trends: saddle bag style.
Despite all the rain we are supposed to get in Lancaster, I hope you can get out and enjoy First Friday tonight. Please consider stopping by to see my good friend Loryn’s art show…it’s also Art Walk this weekend. Please show your support. Enjoy!
I’m learning to embrace the color green. It’s never been one of my favorites but when I wear it, I get compliments. Because I always love the symbolism of colors, I had to look this one up: vitality, fresh growth, and wealth. It’s generally thought of as balanced, healthy, and youthful. And, green is used in design for spaces to foster creativity and productivity. It’s also a color you will see a lot of in various shades this Fall. Colors vary from emerald to military green to olive.
I’m adding a little green to my black dress and mixing up the shades. My earrings are dark olive green cut glass with gold accents. I think gold works particularly well with green. Oh, and I really try not to do the “Christmas look” with red and green (except for the hair!). this dress is fantastic…easy, flowy and will be a staple in my winter wardrobe because I can layer it under a sweater or jacket. The boots are so comfortable and in a mossy dark green. I would love to get these boots in black as well because they are so versatile and comfortable. Enough heel to make you feel like you’re wearing one but not too much to kill your feet. A perfect mix! Topping off the outfit is this green saddle bag…hot trend for the Fall. It’s stylish and fits everything you need for daily use. The bonus is a cross body strap.
I know there are alot of people who are ready for the warm weather to go away, but not me! I would love to stretch Summer out as long as possible. But, as the nights start to get cooler earlier I’ve been able to begin introducing some of my Fall clothing.
Anyone who follows my blog knows I wear boots all year-long. Fall means I can finally break out my OTK boots though. I have to say it’s probably one of the few things I like about cooler weather! This pair is not only stylish but they are actually comfortable to wear. I love the look with this mini and a simple t-shirt. One of the Fall trends is longer jackets, coats and vests. This tan version is going to make alot of appearances throughout the season for me…the length adds great drama and a little polish to this outfit. It also has a belt giving it a completely different look. If you work in a more formal office, pair this with a midi skirt and heels.
I layered on the accessories this time with earrings, a cool necklace (can be combined with other long necklaces as well) and bracelets. Usually I don’t add all those pieces, but it seems to feel right this time. The finishing touch is a fabulous fringe leather bag. It’s a great neutral gray color.
What makes Friday better? A casual Friday! Some days you simply need to be comfortable…this outfit is it for me. It would make a great weekend day look also if you’re running errands.
Boyfriend jeans have become my friend since injuring my back. They don’t pull on it like skinny jeans can and the waistband doesn’t add pressure to the lower back. I also love that a quick change to heels or booties take them from day to night. For this day look I added snakeskin patterned slip-on sneakers. A little style but a lot of comfort! All you need is a t-shirt to finish it off and it’s ready to go.
I’m not a huge shorts person…I struggle with how they look on me. I like styles that hit at my knee. I feel like they’re not really a short and they aren’t jeans either! But, I don’t want them to look matronly. This second-hand find from a consignment store are my favorites! I’m not sure what I will do when they completely wear out. Right now they are at the perfect stage of “broken in” and are soft and comfortable.
I’ve been slowing playing with adding heels back into my wardrobe, although on a much more restrained basis than in my past. I think pairing a cool pair of summer heels to this outfit really makes it stand out. I could easily throw on a black boyfriend jacket or a long cardigan and wear this to work. You can’t go wrong with a comfortable graphic t-shirt either. You feel good and it adds interest.
I accessorized this look with a red leather tote which doubles as a crossbody and a favorite pair of earrings. For a work look this could be really cool with a great oversized clutch as well.
The weather forecast is hot and sunny…perfect if you ask me! A short drive outside of Lancaster is the Mount Gretna Outdoor Art Show this weekend (Mio Studio will be there!). It’s a beautiful setting and wonderful selection of art. Get out and enjoy!
I look forward to Friday night because it’s always a night Rob and I try to do something together. We try to be home from work “on time” and most of the time we go out somewhere in the city. One of our favorites has become The Pressroom’s new outside bar area…the mahi fish tacos are to die for!
This black dress is an easy option for going out. It’s from Tart and is super soft…I love how it drapes in the front. It also is very light weight so it would be a good choice for hotter Summer nights. If I want it to be a little more casual I wear booties and add a jean jacket. Here, I dressed it up with kitten heels.
I added some silver jewelry and a vintage white clutch purse. With a black dress though gold accents could work just as well! So many options…
So, I was looking for something that would be comfortable yet work for the holiday weekend. I paired this cropped lightweight sweater with a distressed pair of denim shorts. I always like these shorts with heels or boots, of course they work with slip-on sneakers too for a more casual look. I decided to clash all the reds from the boots to the bag to the sweater. Not something I generally do, but for this I thought it worked. A simple pair of black teardrop earrings and layers of gray bracelets finish out the look and keep it casual.
Just a quick post today because I’m rushing out to a doctor’s appointment really early and then into the office. We have our 8 year-old-nephew visiting for the weekend from Florida so our house has been filled with one question after another! Why this, why that….I never heard so many questions from one little body! I think I will feel a little like him this morning because I have a list of questions for my doctor. So, the rest of my family is off to HersheyPark today and i will meet up with them after work.
My outfit today had to be flexible…easy to pull on this morning, comfortable and convertible to an outfit to wear out to dinner tonight. So, I grabbed one of my favorite dresses. This black skater style dress has pulled me through all seasons. today I simply added a tank under it for work. The cropped jean jacket will help for air conditioning at the office! Simple silver jewelry and out the door!
