I have debated a cape purchase for a couple of seasons now…I love my ponchos so I figured I would love a cape. Especially in the Fall when it just starts getting colder at night. So, I found one I liked and took the plunge! This cape has an orange chevron pattern on it with pink satin lining. Even though I don’t like the color pink, the contrast in the colors is fun and energizing even if I am the only one who really sees the inside. The attention to detail though is wonderful from the cool buttons and stitching to the amazing bag it came in. Seriously, how can you not love a purchase that comes in a cool black bag on a hanger so it’s all ready to go when you get it!! Oh–it has zippered pockets and was handmade. If you are Lucky Mag subscriber, there is a deal in the October (pretty sure it was this one) issue.
You could wear a cape with anything and dress it up or down. Today, I chose a pair of off-black skinny jeans and a favorite t-shirt. I’m still having trouble with my back so flat boots were in order. I kept everything else simple…a vintage ring and bag matched up with a wide cuff and handmade earrings that I have had forever.
Something I know people struggle with from time to time is how to dress down a piece they feel is “dressy.” I think there’s very little you can’t dress down these days and give it a casual twist. I love this black sheer blouse…it is so versatile. During the day I put a simple black cami under it to make it more work and meeting appropriate. Today I paired it with off black jeans and it’s ready to go! You could also pair this with dark wash jeans or colored coated jeans in the Fall. Or, tuck it into a pencil skirt. To dress it up, simply remove the cami and add a fancy bra (use a black bra if you’re a little uncomfortable with too much showing) and a sparkly pair of earrings…distressed jeans would be a great mix for a night look. I added a snakeskin pair of heels for some texture, but boots could also work really well with this outfit if heels aren’t your thing. The white clutch is vintage and has a great tortoiseshell pattern on the handle. In keeping with the neutral theme I had going today, I added a large silver cuff. This one just drapes on your wrist–LOVE it! A pair of rings, one acrylic with crystals and one handmade black ebony, complement one of my favorite pairs of earrings. These large silver hoops look different all the time because they move around in the post…they also are a pair that can dress up or dress down. So easy, I go to these all the time!
So, don’t be afraid to take that dressy blouse and give it new life on casual Friday…enjoy!
So, I don’t know about you, but I’m not much of a white clothing person. Somehow that’s always when I spill something or drop my lipstick. But, I just loved this skirt when I saw it and thought it could at least make it one season! I paired it with a printed gray t-shirt for a casual twist keeping it comfortable and easy-going. Don’t be afraid to pair a more dressy skirt with a casual top! The yellow chandelier earrings add the punch of color I always love and pick up the yellow in my vintage bag. The bag is a great clutch which is large enough for day but still works at night…it also has a strap so, a bonus, if you’re using something like this during the day. I stacked gold bracelets and several statement rings to round out the outfit. The black heels pull the outfit together and make it a great work-ready option. I got these on sale during a recent trip and have been dying to wear them…this seemed like the perfect outfit. Enjoy!
